10 METERS OF EXTENDED GERMAN COASTLINE

Sculpture | 2006 | Thomas Rehbein Galerie

I dug a hole into the beach shore, humorously "gifting" Germany an additional 10 meters of coastline. The gallery installation featured bags of sand from the site, arranged to match the shape of the missing section of beach, alongside a photograph documenting the intervention.

By extending the coastline in a playful gesture, the project touches on themes of territory and expansion without conflict, offering a satirical commentary on historical notions of conquest. It reframes territorial gain as an absurd, peaceful act
-a whimsical "expansion" with no violence, merely the rearrangement of sand.
